Gothams Finest 2017

Hey guys and gals.  Its been way too long, I have been working on a few projects, one is a tv series  and the others are personal secret projects that will hopefully will come out near the end of summer time this year of next year.  While I've been working I have been doing this Illustration in my spare time.  I will also be selling prints at this years Dublin Comic Con.  This one will probably be on sale and will hopefully do a little mini collection of batman characters if I can come up with something original.  And be putting up more and more prints that will be for Dublin Comic.

Gothams Finest 2017

This is a parody and social comentary on Suicide Squad winning the Oscar for  "Best Make-Up".  its not the versions that were in the movie, these are my interpretations of the characters.  its mostley for fun.  I am mad about batman character since the arkham knight game came out a couple years ago.  Essentialy Joker swipes the Oscar out of harleys hand stealing  the spot light from all the other character.  The other characters costumes and make up were great but joker was not well recieved and will always be the negative focus on them winning the award.  I still believe there were other films more worthy for the award and honestly its shocking that suicide squad was nominated considering all the negativity the film recieved.

Anyway lets get to the breakdown.

Rough 1.

I started after the Oscars had happen and saw that Suicide Squad had once best make up.  I thought that would be funny as a  gag of having Joker holding up the award, there were alot of people hating on that version of Joker and as if he was the only reason the won the award.  Which I think is untrue.  there were lots of great character designs in the film, alot of the very appealing.  Joker was probably the weekest one.  So to rub salt in the wound I have joker holding the trophy with a big grin on his face while the suicide squad look on displeased at joker.

Rough 2.

After the first rough I worked more on the characters designs and tried my hand at making my own version of the characters.  It took quite a while to get harleys proportions right, but it worked out in the end.

Line.

Once I was happy with the rough I worked on the line work.  I spent alot of time making the line work look right.  Thining and thicking the lines were there is a strong crease or a but of shadow too.

Color.

After line work I worked on colour.  taking inspiration from the Suicide Squad film.  I really loved Joker and Harleys gold and Silver costumes they had in the film.  Really loved the creativity from what you usually see in the comics, tv, or animated stuff.  I did change it a little bit by making the Jokers blazer more in the style of a bomber jacket.  Just to make him look a bit more gangster/ mobster feel to it and taking away the tattoo's because I felt it was a little to much.

Detail.

Once that was done.  I worked on adding as many of the sucide character as I could.  I couldnt get everyone in but I chose Killer Croc, EL Diablo and Deadshot because I like there costumes, make up and over all appearance.  I did do my own twist on the character too, mainly Killer Croc.  I also added my own home made textures and used my amazing texture brushes I bought around christmas for the small bit of texture around Croc's face.  I also used those brushes to make Harley pink and blue hair and make up.

Final Version.

And finally I added more shading, highlights and little extra detail to the characters to make them pop plus the background too.

anyway I hope you all enjoyed this break down, if you like please share it around with friends and check out my other sites.

Christmas Beard

Christmas Beard
English

Nollaig Beard
Irish

Hey Guys and Gals!
Here is a brand new Illustration for christmas!  I wanted to make a Christmas Card and test out some new brushes I bought for the first time online and I love them! Link to the brushes down below!  I wanted to do something different, something more classical with a twist on it.  So I have seen the christmas decorated beards and thought it would be cute to see a sleepy grampa and his gran kids decorating him with stuff from the tree while he sleeps.

so If you like the illustrations or christmas beards buy one or share it with friends :)

anyway lets get into the breakdown!

1. Rough

I started off with rough and used default brush, and just worked out the basic shapes.

2. Line and shape

After I finished the rough I started using the new gouche brushes to make the shapes and a small bit of line art for extra detail.  I also made a couple custome  brushes for the tinsel on the tree and for the candy cane to make it look more like real tinsel.

4. Texture and Shading

Once the shapes and line were done I worked on texturing the grampa's beard, the tinsel and the tree leaves etc.  I added a little blush to the characters skin to very the skin color and finally added some shading and little highlights .  After that I added a tinsel boarder and a merry christmas text I also made an english and Irish version just for the sake of it :)

anyway I hope you all enjoyed this break down, if you like please share it around with friends and check out my other sites.

They call me Daddy

Hey Guys and Gals.
Hope you all getting on well.  Eirtakon is over and I am still recovering lol It was a very long week but I was so happy to see so many of you and I selling a fair few posters.  I will be looking into being at more cons so if there are any in your area let me know.  Anyway this is one of my favorite illustrations I did for the con.  Its "Daddy 76"!! Now I have played alot of overwatch, almost religiously since it came out.  I love the characters and there personalities, the jokes and memes and the beautiful fan art I see online.  So I chose to do the Daddy 76, if you listen to soldier 76 audio clips he's a really dad or grumpy old man.  I wanted to illustrate the idea that he is the a stone cold serious character but also the best dad ever so under his Jacket I gave him a number one dad shirt and his kids all over him, including a baby gremlin D.VA and a nuaghty Junkrat toldler.  I think is cute and hilarious but anyway  here is a quick break down of how I made the illustration.

1.  Rough

So I started off by doing alot of different roughs of the character but the one here I though turned out the best.  Some of the other angles I had didn't display the shirt big enough so I stuck with this one.  I used a default brush and just tried to may a rough guide and ad as much detail as I could for later on.
2. Line Art

After the rough I worked on the line art and added all the tiny details.  I also did the line with for the baby D.VA and kid Junkrat later on but added them in here si you can see what it looks like.  Hardest Part was making baby diva look like herself , cute and not too cartoony.

3.  Color Art

After finishing the line work I made a base shape for the three characters.  After making the shapes, I clipped layers to add all the color, each color has a different layer to keep it clean.  It really started looking great and after this i started added shading and highlights to create more volume.

4.  Shading and Highlights

Once I started adding the shading it really started to pop.  I kepts it very simply with a white highlight to the left and a pink tint to the right.  Also the shading was a dark blue color.  I wanted to make it change.  I really think it turned out great and will hopefully do more like this.  Just for fun.

Anyway thanks so much for all the love and support.  if you want to see more follow me here :

Human Coffee

Hey Guys and Gals.  Its been a while, I have been busy with work and a personal secret project.  but I finally got some free time so a made this illustration of a mug drink a fresh cup of HUMAN! I have been drink a lot of fraps recently and I'm sure a lot of people need that morning coffee or tea.  well so do the mugs and cups lol.  if you want a copy of this for yourself follow the links below please ;)

Now lets get to the break down.

1.

Here is the rough version of the image,  I went through a few different versions of the image, couple of them had the cup with a human cartoon body, which didn't make sense.  I used the default brush in photoshop and just made a rough sketch.

2.

After the rough I worked on building up all the shapes of the character with a little bit of shade here and there, mostly flat.

3.

Once all the shapes were done I started adding a little bit of texture to the cup and the milk foam on top of the mug, so he's not so clean and give it more character.  I also added the proper text and added a little bit extra texture to make it stand out.  I really wanted the word human to pop so I made it bigger and a really vibrant red, Same as the blood in the cup its holding.

4.

After the texturing and text were finished up I worked on the a little shading so the character isn't so flat.  I started with an over all light, and used the eraser tool to remove the shad around the top of the mug and I added a little bit of pure white highlights for that little extra pop.

anyway thanks so much for checking out the break down, if you wanna see more check out my links below, I usually post there first. ;)
